On April 7, 2023 Social Enterprise (Beijing) Summit was held at IFC Hall in Beijing, Li Xia, the founder and CEO, on behalf of Shenzhen Power Solution Ind Co. ,Ltd, was invited to make a speech on the topic of “New Energy Practices of Social Enterprises along the Belt and Road”.

The summit centered on “Higher-Quality Development of Social Enterprises and Contribution to Common Prosperity”, assembling honour guests from all sectors, include national government authorities, outstanding social enterprises, financial institutions, influential investment institutions, as well as foundations, well-known experts and scholars and industry service association. Focused on the new trend of high-quality development of social enterprises in China, such as policy support, financial service system construction, improvement of social enterprise capacity and industry ecosystem construction.

In recent years, social enterprises have been increasingly recognized by all parties and have playing an increasingly significant role in promoting the transformation of government functions, accelerating social governance innovation, expanding social service supply and promoting social and economic development. As a Golden Social Enterprise certified by China Social Enterprise Service Platform, Power Solution has continuously improve the living standards of people in off-grid areas (areas without access to public electricity, running water, internet and other infrastructure) along the B&R for 14 years, reaching out to the world’s poorest groups (people at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP)) through cost-effective clean energy solutions. The company has been highly appreciated and recognized by many domestic and international organizations such as UNICEF, UNDP and UNHCR for its sustainable social value.

 

Born with great love, ceaselessly keeping the promise for 14 years

The business startup begins with a business trip to India, 2006, by witnessing the poverty-stricken live there, Lixia was impressed by the fact that nearly 4 billion people living in extreme poverty around the world, with 1.6 billion of whom rely on unsafe kerosene lamps for lighting. Therefore, with the aim of improving the living condition of BoP (Bottom of Pyramid) and pushing forward the process of global poverty alleviation, Lixia led her team to conduct field research in countries along the Belt and Road, which demonstrated the potential of developing clean energy business. Taking into consideration of the living environment and needs of the BOP users, the team innovated sorts of “practical, durable, affordable” products, aiming to make clean energy affordable for everyone. Up to December 31, 2022, the company has provided sustainable solar products to 48.99 million poor people worldwide; helping countless infants and children from respiratory diseases caused by inhaling harmful gases, which emitted from candles and kerosene lamps; greatly reduced fire hazards for poor families in Africa; generated a total of 56.5 million kwh of solar power for extremely poor families; reduced 5.05 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions for the earth.

Shoulder social responsibility, Power Solution are actively involved in the overseas projects cooperated with China’s charity foundation, for examples, joining hands with China Foundation For Rural Development to initiate “Light Up the Future” solar lantern school project in Ethiopia in May, 2021, working together with China Social Entrepreneur  Foundation to donate “solar power kits” to the disaster areas after the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, in February 2023. leading the company to offer helping hand as much as possible, the founder of Power Solution have shared warmth and selfless love to people in need.

Social Enterprise Business Innovation, Welfare + Business Model

Over the years, Li Xia has been successively focused on exploring ways to remedy social issue, guiding enterprise in endeavoring new energy business innovation along the Belt and Road, namely business model innovation, product renovation and service transformation. In product design, we always focus on environment-friendly, practical and process innovation, insisting on spending money on the “cutting edge”, and cutting non-essential parts and spend as much as possible, making it affordable for users. Its signature, solar lantern “Candles killer”, has certified as one of first batch products of “Light Up the World” by the World Bank, with tiny volume and weight, minimal materials and high-quality core components, selling at a price equivalent to three months of kerosene lamps consumption. In addition, in 2016, the corporate took the lead in enforcing installment “Pay as you go” in BoP group, intensely promotes the sales and popularity of solar home appliances in Africa through the installment mode of solar products.
